BRAND LICENSING EUROPE 2012 WRAP-UP Smashing Records Brand Licensing Europe 2012 in London was the most successful in its history, and attendance from retailers has continued to grow over the past three years with the introduction of retail initiatives. BLE is the must-attend event for the European licensing industry. Among the retailers attending were buying professionals from major international retailers including Avon Products Inc., Auchan, Asda Stores Ltd., Boots PLC, Carrefour, Debenhams, El Corte Inglés, John Lewis PLC, Marks and Spencer plc, New Look Retailers Ltd., Tesco Stores Ltd., Top Shop and Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd. With more European visitors in attendance, the show’s place as the must-attend event for the European licensing industry was cemented this year. “We are thrilled with the results of this year’s show, and have worked hard to ensure the event reflects the needs of our visitors and exhibitors,” said Jessica Blue, who is the event director for the BLE expo. “We have really focused on increasing attendance from retail and from across Europe. The feedback from exhibitors and visitors has indicated that we have achieved this, and we look forward to making the event even bigger and better in 2013.” Plans for the BLE 2013 expo are already in place, with 74 percent of floor space already being sold. BLE 2013 will be merchandised into three key segments: art, design and image; entertainment and character; and brands. This is designed to create the ultimate shopping experience for retailers, licensees and sales promotion professionals, said Advanstar Communications Inc., producer of BLE and the Licensing International Expo. O Brand Licensing Europe (BLE) 2012 smashed all records in its 14-year history with a 23-percent increase in visitors, 20 percent more exhibitors, a 14 percent increase in retail and a 17 percent increase in European attendance. Held Oct. 16 to18 at London’s Olympia, 6,875 retailers, licensees and sales promotion professionals attended over three days. 10 November/December 2012 Licensed characters stormed the aisles of the largest-ever Brand Licensing Europe expo. Combined visitor and exhibitor attendance reached 9,108. Brand Licensing Europe attendance figures are always audited by an independent body, the AEO, and the audit of attendance will be confirmed. Attendance from retailers has continued to grow over the past three years with the introduction of several retail initiatives including the Retail Mentoring Programme, improved content from Knowledge Partners (GfK, NPD Group and Planet Retail) and the Retail Buyers’ Lounge.
